Employee Responsibilities

All employees shall:

  • Follow established chemical handling procedures.
  • Read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using chemicals.
  • Wear appropriate PPE while handling chemicals.
  • Report unsafe conditions, chemical spills, leaks, or incidents immediately.
  • Store chemicals only in designated areas.
  • Never mix incompatible chemicals unless authorized.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training programs.

Management Responsibilities

Management shall:

  • Provide adequate resources for chemical safety.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is available and maintained.
  • Maintain proper inventory of hazardous chemicals.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Chemical Storage Guidelines

  • Store chemicals according to compatibility.
  • Clearly label all containers.
  • Keep flammable chemicals away from ignition sources.
  • Maintain proper ventilation in storage areas.
  • Store acids, alkalis, oxidizers, and solvents separately.
  • Keep spill kits and fire extinguishers readily available.
  • Restrict access to authorized personnel only.

Environmental Protection

The organization shall:

  • Prevent chemical releases to air, water, and soil.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste through authorized disposal agencies.
